Accessibility statement

This statement applies to bookbagmedia.com and the signed-in Bookbag platform at /app. It explains how accessible the site is, how we tested it, and what to do if you run into an accessibility problem.

Bookbag Media Ltd runs this website. We are not a public-sector body, so we are not statutorily required to publish this statement under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018. Our primary users are UK primary schools, which are. We follow the same standard voluntarily so schools can procure Bookbag with confidence.

1. How accessible this website is

We conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at the AA level.

Specific things that work well:

• Text and interactive elements meet the WCAG 4.5:1 (normal text) and 3:1 (large text and UI components) contrast ratios.
• Every page has a "Skip to main content" link that appears when you tab into the page, so keyboard users don't have to traverse the header navigation on every page.
• Every image carries meaningful alternative text, or is marked as decorative where appropriate.
• Every form input is associated with a visible label; error messages are announced to screen readers.
• Dialogs (modals) trap keyboard focus while open, return focus to the trigger element when closed, and can be dismissed with the Escape key.
• Every animation respects the prefers-reduced-motion setting.

2. How we test this website

Our approach combines automated testing with a manual palette audit:

• Automated testing. Every marketing page and a representative set of app components are checked against axe-core (WCAG 2.0 and 2.1, levels A and AA) on every test run. Failures block the release of the affected change.
• Manual palette audit. Every colour token was measured against the WCAG contrast ratios for its intended typographic role. Failing tokens were replaced. The audit is stored in the project repository.

The site was last tested on 17 July 2026.

3. Reporting an accessibility problem

If you find something on Bookbag that is difficult to use, please tell us. We take these reports seriously and use them to prioritise fixes.
